Barbara Blount-Powell

Fantastic to hear from you and to hear about everyone! I have lived in Gainesville, Fl., on and off [via Miami, Tortola, BVI, Norfolk], from fall of 1975.....Yes, horses are still in my life....I was a late bloomer with the kids....I have a 12 year old son and a 14 year old daughter...both have done pony club and I was able to keep my son involved for a while with tetrathalon...but sadly he has gone on to other interests! My daughter and I continue to ride...and while we have 2 ponies and 2 horses, we mainly ride for a trainer out of a hunter jumper barn. My daughter, Barclay, gets to show much nicer salae horses than I could afford! I was doing a little eventing until the last year or so....just don't have time to do much but be my daughter's groom.....
My husband works at UF in the astronomy department and I have been an attorney here in Gainesville forever.....we have been looking for property for a while, but haven't found the right one yet....so the horses/ponies are scattered between leases, friend's fields, and the show barn...
It is so funny, I was just telling someone the story of the [in]famous Chincoteague island adventure and what a blast that trip was and our wild, wild, rides... And remember the drive over the Chesapeake Bridge?! We were remarking how such a thing could never happen today....am I just old, or does the world seem sooooooo much tamer? I love seeing the photo from the Washington International....sadly, I have no idea where any photos of that show and Dallas might be....maybe somewhere in my parents things that are in a house in Norfolk, Va. where my younger sister lives...I will have to go l dig them out!
I will have to gather some photos and send them on....LOVE the Barn Rats website....It's stiring memories I forgot I had! A long trail ride to a beautiful clear spring [not after we were done!] one time....Jeannie's VW bug and everyone packed in for the lunch trips to McDonald's....a summer stay at Jeannie's grandfather's [?] farm with no electricity on the 2nd floor, an old jumping mare, dairy calves that broke out....and woodchucks! The former peruvian calvary officer [name?] that taught Jeannie and came to the farm for clinics, and worked for [?] who had the gorgeous farm near Rock Creek park....
Well...have to get back to work at the moment....but will try and catch up and scour the websites! Thanks for the email!
Sincerely,
Barbara Blount-Powell

MM's Barn

Here is M's barn in Charlottesville. Can't wait to get over there and check it all out! Pictures of her daughter and mare (in foal now).

Terry Carpenter

Here is Therese Dumer (our very own Terry Carpenter) and her gorgeous boy. She calls him Opie. How very fabulous is he!

Hooray! I heard from Terry Carpenter (Dumer). I am trying to get a pic of her absolutely gorgeous QH stallion. You won't believe this guy! Terry reminded me of the gymkhanas we used to put on... painting our horses and riding bareback all over the place. She remembers a horse named Pasha that wouldn't load in a trailer or cross a road at all. That name is familiar but I can't picture the horse.
